This is a good topic. I think it’s interesting to note the different ways that people are drawn into gaming. It’s fascinating that people who love playing golf in real life also buy golf video games. For me, playing video games IS the hobby, and so those games which involve realistic activities, like Gran Turismo or various sports, are pretty boring to me.

Yes, but enough about games. What about taxi cabs?

  3. LisVender LisVender Says:

Taxi cabs are cool…in video games, anyway. I love Crazy Taxi as much as the next guy. I also really like the taxi-driving mini-missions in the Grand Theft Auto games. However, I don’t think I’d make a good taxi driver in real life. I don’t like talking to strangers, especially when an awkward silence makes you feel like you have to.

Plus, I agree that taxi drivers are annoying bastards.

There was a topic in there somewhere in amongst all of the taxi cab confessions

I’m kind of surprised you discussed aspirational gaming and didn’t once refer to FPS games and school shootings.

    I don’t really believe there’s a causal link.

At least I hope not… my kid likes Serious Sam.

    in RL, I still haven’t:
    Shot a hooker
    run down a pedestrian
jumped a car off a ramp
    had sex with an alien
    driven a cab
    riden a skateboard
graffiti tagged a building whilst on roller blades
    used a plasmid
    jumped on a turtle
    assassinated anyone
    blown up a building.

I think videogames must be busted since I have liked games that did all of the above, but never once wanted to replicate those actions for real.

One time, I felt pump after playing a driving game and wanted to drive fast. One time. Just once.

I used to play Tribes all the time…

but I still don’t shoot people in the back while waiting in line at the ATM.
