>shoot m16 at enemy
>you've missed the enemy but hit the red barrel he was standing next to. It erupts in a fireball, throwing the enemy backwards in an amusing fashion.
>"lol"
>A nub is running at your spawnpoint with a Javelin missile
>"fuck"

Man I miss text adventures, I used to love playing them. The first Spider-Man game I ever played was a text only version, about as much fun as you would imagine a text only version of Spider-Man would be, but strangely still better than the game of the 3rd Movie.
"Mr George sits down and sings a song about games."

Well, yeah, Scribblenaughts is very close, you're right.
But it's just one game, and not a genre.

did we say on the podcats about scribblenaughts? that's about all I can think of offhand.

I was too impatient as a child but now... Why lie? I'm still impatient as an adult!

I loved text adventure games, including the original Adventure which I was never able to complete.

I don't really know what the current equivalent would be, there's nothing quite like the experience of playing with the parser and coming up with the proper combination of available objects and subjects and verbs to overcome obstacles.

Man, if text adventures were online and multiplayer it wouldn't be dominated by 14 year-olds or Koreans, that's for sure.

Oh who am I kidding, of course it would.

I didn't get a computer of my own until late 1993, when Doom threw the PC gaming scene into chaos. The only adventure games I played were graphical, like Loom, King's Quest VI, and the Kyrandia games. I tried out the Hitchhiker's game after listening to this podcats, though, and enjoyed the little secrets the parser allowed, like "enjoy mud." I'm a fan of the books, and I'm curious to see how closely the game follows them.
